EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Emnet Tesfa is a senior at College Prep from Oakland. She has spent over 5 years volunteering with children educational access programs across the Bay, where she designed curriculums and organized children events, such as festivals and summer camps. When she isn’t writing or working with children, Emnet loves to adventure around the Bay Area (often to taste different iced vanilla lattes) and explore new creative avenues such as sewing or doing hair! She is very excited to lead YLP with Maia this year!

From the soccer field to local volunteer sites, Berkeley High student Maia is always looking for ways to engage with her community. An avid reader of fantasy fiction and a massive boba enthusiast, she loves bringing people together over shared passions. She is thrilled to lead the team alongside Emnet as Co-Executive Directors and support the mission of literacy for all.

Adalilly Chu is from Berkeley, CA. When she isn’t writing, Adalilly enjoys drinking chai at cafes and searching for story inspiration. She is a National Honorable Mention recipient in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. She is the 2025 Berkeley Youth Vice Poet Laureate and received a Special Award from the Bay Area Creative Foundation.

FOUNDER

Lea Hireche is from Berkeley, CA. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, writing poetry, journaling, and cooking. Her favorite author is constantly changing. She is a two-time Berkeley Youth Poet Laureate Finalist.
